Features: What Makes Steelseries Apex Pro Unique?
SteelSeries Apex Pro keyboards are designed to give gamers the best possible gaming experience. They have several qualities that make them unique and superior to other gaming keyboards. Some of these features include:
Adjustable Mechanical Switches
The Apex Pro can handle everything from featherlight touches to deep and deliberate vital presses. It flawlessly alters its touch-detection for every game, and it’s also great for gamers who vary their keyboard play in different genres.
All of the Apex Pro’s keys have a linear feel, meaning they go straight down and don’t give you any tactile feedback until you hit bottom. They are just like Cherry MX Red switches. The bulk of the keyboards feature Omni-Point switches for adjustable point actuation, but the number pad, macro, and arrow keys use traditional MX Red switches.
Although SteelSeries have tried to improve the design of their keyboards, many people are still left unimpressed by the switches included in their keyboards. They tried to make new ones called “OmniPoint Switches” that feel like a mechanical switch but work differently. Instead of pressing on two pieces of metal together, they press two pieces of metal separate from one another, transmitting energy.
However, when you press down the Omni-Point switch, a magnet near the end of the stem is pushed closer to a sensor at the base. It enables the keyboard to tell how far down it’s been pressed using magnetic fields. These switches can last longer because they won’t get physical damage by being constantly touched.
Record-Breakingly Fast
The WASD and game-specific keys on your keyboard can be actuated with the fastest precision, or you can adjust them to the perfect depth for speed and efficiency.
Deep & Deliberate
A deep actuation means that any key pressed on the keyboard will register at this depth, giving you fewer typos and increased peace of mind.
OLED Smart Display
Integrated command center displaying relevant information for changing settings, profiles, and content updates on the fly. Avoid tabbing out of what you’re working on and have all the details always at hand with our keyboard shortcuts.
With this keyboard, you can change your RGB lighting, macro keys, and actuation point. They also have an OLED screen. If you use num or caps lock, it displays any given timeout, brightness, or lock indicator.
Aluminum Alloy
The Series 5000 is made to last for decades. It will keep your setup intact with its unbreakable durability and sturdiness, making it the perfect centerpiece of any high-end design.
Wrist Rest
Ideally, the perfect keyboard accessory would allow you to securely attach it and balance your wrists by providing full palm support. This way, you’re comfortable typing and gaming for as long as you want.
Dedicated Multimedia Controls
Along with our clickable metal roller, you’ll have easy access to volume and settings with our media key: adjust brightness, rewind, skip, pause, and more, all by just touching a button.
Three-Way Cable Routing
Avoid the frustration, mess, and clutter of cables this way. The frame has channels that allow you to choose how your line goes, keeping your desk tidy.
Dynamic Per-Key RGB Illumination
Your personal preference, whichever you decide. Want reactive typing effects? There are millions of colors to choose from, and your SteelSeries gear will match perfectly, bringing your setup to life.
Customize Everything
With the SteelSeries Engine, you can customize your game controller’s features, sync with other devices, and tweak your setup to perfection.
Price and Availability
It is worth noting that the SteelSeries Apex Pro is already available! You can get it from both the official website and retailers like Amazon.
The Apex Pro is officially priced at $199.99/£199.99 or €229.99, but you can often find it even cheaper on Amazon Renewed.
Performance
The SteelSeries Apex Pro is one of the most delicate gaming keyboards I’ve employed in recent years, having a broad range of unique features and a lightning-fast performance that makes it hard not to fail.
The keyboard has been built using Omipoint switches, and these offer a short response time of 0.7 milliseconds. The actuation point is at just 0.4 millimeters. For this reason, Apex Pro feels highly reassuring to use throughout the day, whether writing lots of words into Google Docs or participating in rounds of Overwatch in the evening. Not only does this peripheral not take a back seat to video game enthusiasts, but it certainly leans heavily in that direction.
The only single fault or downside to this is that it can carry a bit to customize each key to correspond precisely with the keys on your keyboard. If you use multiple different keyboards, it might be hard to remember what actuation point you need for which game. So, it’s best used for your most played games. This type of keyboard might take a bit more time to learn about than others, but it should provide you with some great benefits in the long run. However, one downside is that you can’t bind two functions to a single key like you can with most other keyboards.
Gaming Experience
The Apex Pro is compatible with PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, amongst other devices. The adjustable actuation works great when gaming, and you can program different actions to the keyboard’s actuation points beforehand. In general, the typing experience is comfy and responsive.
When I switched from a middle sensor to a high one for Middle-earth: Shadow of War and accidentally hit the switch that induced the difficulty to be obvious, my joy turned to sadness as I unintentionally destroyed the immersion in my gameplay. I had to switch a real key with less sensitive buttons to make it happen. In Battlefield V and Grand Theft Auto V, as the recommended video game proved to be robust and well-received, I continued to use the susceptible mouse without issue. However, many adult players found I was not improving their in-game skill faster: Players who enjoy keyboard gaming, which is super skilled at repeating their inputs, may disagree.
What Switches Do the Apex Pro Feature Work With?
The Apex Pro keyboard offers SteelSeries patented Omni-Point Adjustable Mechanical Switches. It gives you the freedom to customize key sensitivity, or in other words, how far the keys require to transit before registering as a keypress.
Is It Challenging to Configure the Lightning?
SteelSeries Engine software is known for its high level of usability, and with the introduction of the Apex Pro, Developers took the task to a whole new level with a handful of new Engine Apps. Image-Sync is the first of its kind, allowing even complex lighting to be choreographed in seconds.
Is the Steelseries Apex Pro Good for Gaming?
SteelSeries Apex Pro is a fantastic gaming keyboard that consists of fast and responsive mechanical switches and advanced configurations like configurable actuation points and an OLED display.
What I Like:
Customization Is Important to You
This keyboard offers a lot of customization for people looking for a high-end experience. Not only do you get to choose from RGB lighting, but you also get to pick from six different types of keys, five levels of brightness, and four different mouse settings.
You’re a Competitive Player
With the Apex Pro, you can instantly switch between different performance profiles, making it perfect for competitive gamers or anyone who uses their keyboard a lot.
You Want One of the Best Gaming Keyboards Around
The Apex Pro has garnered lots of praise from people in the eSports scene, including professional players and journalists who cover esports. You may have already heard about all the positive reviews it’s received, but it’s worth a second look if you want a keyboard that is one of the best on the market!
What I Don’t Like:
You Want Dual Functions Per Key
The SteelSeries Apex Pro has many features, but you can’t assign two different tasks to the same key with varying actuation points. If you want this feature, check out Razer Huntsman V2 Analog.
You Want Something Simple
The Apex Pro is a more complicated keyboard to get the most out of, so it’s not for those who are looking for something super simple. It has many excellent features that would last you a while and keep you entertained.
